A "silk painting" is exactly what it sounds like: a painting that has been executed not on canvas or paper, but on fine, tightly stretched white silk. In place of conventional paints -- oils, acrylics, or watercolors -- dyes are used.
The flow of the dye is controlled using a resist, such as gutta. After the painting is completed, the silk is steamed to set the dye. The painting is then hand-washed and framed.

Silk is archival in permanence, with incredible light-fastness and life. The unusually vibrant color of silk painting which drew Diane to the media in the first place is a characteristic it acquires through the unique combination of the dye and the shimmering quality of the silk.

Diane has been working in silk for 6years. She also conducts silk painting workshops for hobbyists, and professional and aspiring artists who are interested in learning new techniques, or just in spending a day experimenting with an exciting and unique medium.
